Welcome to Burke's Point!

Burke's Point sits along Highway 49 in the stunning Sierra Nevada mountain range, 9 miles west of Downieville and 2 east of Loganville. It has a rich history as one of the many towns gold prospectors founded over a century ago, and continues to be a town with a rich culture to this day.

Founded in 1851 by Meinhard Burke, gold miners in town flocked to the North Yuba River to pan for gold. Burke's Point experienced an economic boom in the late 1800s with the mining and lumber industries, and the town population grew to almost five thousand people. With the land newly cleared, some ranches in and around Burke's Point were set up, bringing in even more wealth. As the century turned, the population began to dwindle and fall, especially as local resources were used up, though a steady township remains today.

Though the wilderness around Burke's Point is not adequate for any outdoor recreation, there are many opportunities in town for any visitors to be entertained with shopping, dining, and local events. Situated directly within Tahoe National Forest, visitors are also in close quarters with miles of hiking and biking trails, rivers, and lakes.
